The Afro-Brazilian religion of Candomblé, spiritual rhythms of the Orixas (saints). Will be led byMestre Curtis Autune-Alabe. These Orixas include: “Avamunha, Vassi, Ageeree, Opanieche, Ilu, Alojha, Jica, Ijexa, Bara Vento, Bravun, Bata, Cabula, Congo, and Congu “. All are represented in their traditional drumming and designated to the movements and gestures that are characteristic of each of the Orixas. The traditional drums are called Atabaques. What to expect Orixa Community Dance Classes
The Afro-Brazilian religion Candomblé, spiritual dances and rhythms of the Orixas (saints). These Orixas include: “Ogum, Oxossi, Obaluae, Oxum, Yansa, Xango, Yamaja. The Community Orixa dance classes are accompanied by 4 drummers lead by Mestre Curtis the first Autune-Alabe of Master Condomble Drummer Jorge “Alabe” with some of very best students drumming on traditional drums called Atabaques.
Each Orixas is called out by its distinct rhythm and salutation and performs its particular dance with songs. The workshop adheres to most of the traditional aspects of Condomble Yoruba based religion, it is a workshop not a real ceremony.
What to expect Orixa Master Dance Classes
The Orixa Advance Class will registration will require Dancers to upload proof of 7-10 years of experience as an active professional Dancer or I have these credentials with you when you register at the location.The Afro-Brazilian religion Candomblé, spiritual dances, songs and rhythms of the Orixas (saints). These Orixas include: “Ogum, Oxossi, Obaluae, Osain, Oxum, Yansa, Xango, Yamaja, Oxumare dance of the Cobra,”. Will explain their traditional ways they dress, and designated colors as well as movements and gestures that are characteristic of each of the Orixas being present it. The Orixa Advance dance classes are accompanied by 4 drummers playing traditional drums called Atabaques led by Mestre Curtis.
Rosangela has rigorously researched dance and music in India, Egypt, Brazil, the United States, and Cuba as part of her ever-evolving and eclectic movement palette. A graduate of the Federal University of Bahia, she has studied and helped to evolve an “Afro-Brazilian” dance with Mestre King, Clyde Morgan, and Mercedes Baptista beginning in the late 1970s. She has initial training in classical Ballet as well as Modern dance in the Horton and Graham techniques. In the 1990s, Silvestre toured extensively with jazz musician Steve Coleman and his group the Five Elements. She has set choreography on Brazil’s lauded company, Balé Folclórico da Bahia, as well as Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Company, Ballet Hispanico Repertory Company, American Academy of Ballet, Roots of Brazil, Dance Brasil, Viver Brasil, Muntu Dance Theater, and the Kendra Kimbrough Dance Ensemble. Rosangela is based in Salvador, Bahia and the US, and conducts dance training programs in the Silvestre Technique and Symbols in Motion Process throughout the US, Brazil, Japan, Canada and Europe In the Afro-Brazilian community all over the world Rosangela is considered as one of the top Brasilian representatives to teach Afro-Brazilian cultural dance throughout the world. Mestre Curtis the first Autune-Alabe in the US. and has studied exclusively for over 25 years, the rhythms of the Orixas with Chief Master Afro-Brasilian Drummer of culture and folklore Jorge Alabe raised in the Condomble religionfrom Rio de Janeiro 53 years, he has since become a major source of information on afro Brazilian culture. he started is Journey with the famous historic Condomble House of Casa Blaca located in Bahia. This was a self-supported residency endeavor for over 25 years. Mestre Jorge “Alabe” Bezerra. Born and raised in the carnival traditions of New Orleans for over. Here in New Orleans Mestre Curtis is known as the ambassador of Afro-Brazilian culture. In 2022 he established the international partnership with the Samba School Academico do Salgueiro.
