Mardi Gras Brazil Conference Official Samba Song 2026

About the song;

   This song tells the story of Oxossi king of the forest. This song is about the awareness of our disappearing forests and trees, due to the excessive use of developers throughout the world. We have been excessively using paper for thousands of years. Which means the death of millions of trees. The song about Oxossi, the king of the forest, also points out awareness and survival. Oxossi is a hunter and a protector and the brother of a fierce warrior called Ogum. Oxossi’s sidekick is called Osain, who is the guardian of the secret potion that we call Tylenol, aspirin, and other pharmaceutical drugs that we buy from the pharmacy. Osaine would be considered a pharmacist because it his extensive knowledge of plants and herbs. To rid the body of sickness.

The main reason we are using Oxossi is that my research synchronizes this particular Orixa or patron saint with the Mardi Gras Indians. In Brazil, there is a group of practitioners of a religion called Caboclo, which involves a mixture of Indians and Africans. Very similar to the synchronization of indigenous people, we have here in New Orleans. The history behind the Mardi Gras Indians is that they were given sanction and help to hide them within their villages, and not be detected, because some of the enslaved people and Indians, some of whom had dark skin

  That was the way they were able to blend in with the traditional Indian tribes because of the color of their skin
Within this song, we blended the Mardi Gras Indians’ chants with the chants of a song for Oxossi

   One of the main focuses is of this song is to enlighten the community of the Carnival cultural update. CASA Samba is the first samba organization to establish a partnership with Escola de Samba Academico do Salgueiro, and how it was developed. To make people aware of the first American to obtain master positions in disciplines of culture afro Brazilian martial arts, Kapoeira, and the Afro-Brasilian Culture, highlighting the parade traditions and similarities in New Orleans. Also, in the partnership between Casa Samba and Salgeiro, it has established its position in the city of New Orleans as the cultural ambassador of Afro-Brazilian culture

  Casa Samba has been the leader of Brazilian culture since 1989. When we were given a proclamation. The song also brings attention to the awareness of the Orixas who dwell in the city. Oxossi, synchronization with the Mardi Gras Indians

Casa Samba proud to acknowledge
The greatest show walking on 2 feet.
The Mardi Gras Indians very profound,
from uptown to downtown and all around.

Tribes all over the city looking pretty,
telling a story from head to toe.
Gives homage to the ancestors, that
hid them in the forest, not the city.

Way back then, dressing like Indians made
it easy for en-slaved copper people to blend in.
Because many Indians had dark skin.
